Jim and Lisa Wentworth-Plato joined Forests Forever as our new Caretakers and Forest Hosts at the Hopkins Demonstration Forest in May, 2024.
Both Jim and Lisa have been around the woods and camp-type facilities for much of their working lives. Jim is a forestry graduate from the University of Vermont who has a wide range of technical experience from forest inventory, research plot monitoring and animal trapping to brush/weed control and working with equipment.
Jim says, “For the past 25 years my career has focused on individual tree management working in the urban forest running my tree care business and teaching. It’s fun to get back out into the woods managing groups of trees.” For the past six years, Jim has been a Horticulture Instructor at the Clackamas Community College and leads their Arboriculture two-year degree program.
Lisa has spent much of her early career involved in environmental education, outdoor schools, and camp management. Before the pandemic she was working for the Tualatin Hills Recreation District in their aquatics program. When the pools closed, she transitioned into the special events department and decided to stay there!
Lisa said, “Jim and I met at an outdoor school camp when we worked for the Multnomah Education Service District doing environmental education with sixth graders—so this is a little like coming back home to our early days.”
