Fundraising Continues!

By mid-February, nearly $350,000 in private contributions and building materials had been donated to the new Forestry and Natural Resources Outreach Center being constructed at the Hopkins Demonstration Forest in Beavercreek, Oregon.

The fundraising goal for the Center is $500,000.  The current contribution total is 70% of this goal.

In January, Forests Forever, Inc. worked with Key Bank to establish a $120,000 line of credit to ensure that work needed to finish the building project could be completed on schedule.

RSG Forest Products, based in Kalama, Washington and with one of their mills in Molalla, is the lead contributor for the Center with the project’s first gift during the summer of 2021.  That gift was $200,000.  In addition, RSG provided 2 X 4 and 2 X 6 framing wood for the building.

Other wood product donations for the Outreach Center include all of the plywood and panel products from Freres Lumber, Mill City and all of the exterior cedar siding coming from logs harvested and milled at the Hopkins Demonstration Forest.

The Garvin Family in Milwaukie has donated $25,000 for the naming rights to the Center’s back patio and recognizing Walt Garvin, OSU Master Woodland Manager and his activities working with youth to teach them about Northwest forests and early Indian and pioneer uses of the forest.

The Center’s Conference Room will be named by forest industry partners who are joining together to raise $50,000 for this opportunity.  Although not complete, yet, $40,000 has already been collectively contributed to this effort by Hampton Forests, Port Blakely, Pacific Fibre Products, and Starker Forests.
