Truffle Hunting Adventure Coming!
Forests Forever, Inc. (FFI)—the non-profit organization who owns and operates the Hopkins Demonstration Forest in Beavercreek—is now opening registration for a special truffle hunting foray on Saturday, March 29. The foray will be led by Dr. Charles Lefevre, internationally known truffle expert in the Eugene area and will be a fund-raiser for the FFI. Lefevre has been a leader in the development of the North American truffle industry and promotes the use of dogs in locating truffles in the forest.
“We are really excited to bring this exclusive opportunity to those interested in a very up-close and personal look at truffle harvesting plus how to handle, clean, store and use truffles in cooking,” said Mike Piazza, West Linn, and Forests Forever’s Treasurer. “Dr. Lefevre and fellow truffle forager, Ava Chapman, will bring their dogs to demonstrate the hunting techniques. One of the highlights of this adventure will be interacting with the highly trained dogs adept at sniffing out the hidden treasures beneath the soil.”
The cost for the truffle hunting experience is $150 per person. The three-hour event will begin at 10:30am at Forests Forever’s Pedee Woodlands property in southern Polk County. Registration is limited to 20. Contact FFI’s business office at 503-655-5524 to register. The foraging experience will conclude with a field lunch for participants and a time to share stories, ask questions, and savor the fruits of your labor in a serene forest setting.
